Technically speaking, you cannot cancel a domain name registration. A domain name registration is for a set period and is not a reoccurring service (like hosting) that can be cancelled. There is no reversal or cancellation process at the domain registry, and all registrations are non-refundable. You can, however, request for the domain to be deleted from the registry. We prefer to advise that you simply let your domain expire naturally instead of requesting deletion. That way, if there’s a sudden change of mind, you’re not out of pocket for a domain name cost because once a domain has been deleted, there’s no way to get it back without registering it again and paying the registration cost. Further, once a domain is deleted from the registry, it enters the final stages of its life cycle. This means your domain name will not be immediately available for re-registration. Usually, this part of the cycle takes a couple of days for a “.au” domain and around a month for “.com” domains. Most, if not all, domain names can be cancelled once they have been purchased; however, in the event of a domain cancellation, we cannot offer a refund on the domain name renewal or registration cost. If you are certain you want your domain name cancelled, then simply submit an eTicket to our technical support team with the request, and we’ll be able to sort it out for you.
