--- What is cPanel and WHM? cPanel is a Linux-based web hosting control panel that is installed over the top of a CentOS, Red Hat Linux, or CloudLinux OS install. It provides a graphical interface and automation tools for a server and is designed to simplify the process of hosting a website. So “cPanel and WHM”? what name do we use for what part? While the whole system is often referred to as “cPanel,” there are two distinct interfaces you need to be familiar with. WHM (WebHost Manager) is the name given to the back end of the control panel where the server administrator can tweak settings for the server along with creating and administering individual cPanel accounts. Logging in to WHM will require the root user credentials or a reseller account. As a fully managed VPS customer, you will be given access to WHM as a reseller, which gives you the ability to administer cPanel accounts but not tweak server settings. As a self-managed VPS customer, you will have root access to configure it as you desire. cPanel is more often the term used to refer to the individual domain account on your cPanel server, where a user will manage settings and data for their individual domain(s).
