A subdomain allows you to create extra addresses that end in your primary domain name. For example, if you have the domain name banana.com, a subdomain of that would be shop.banana.com.

How to create a subdomain in cPanel

  1. Log in to cPanel.
  2. Navigate to Domains.
  3. Click the blue Create a New Domain button on the right-hand side of the page.
  4. Untick the Share Document Root tickbox before proceeding. If left enabled, your subdomain will serve the same content as your primary domain.
  5. Enter your subdomain in the Domain text box. This should automatically fill out the Subdomain box that appears below.
  6. The Document Root box should also be filled out automatically.
  7. Click Submit.
Done! This will create the necessary DNS records in your cPanel DNS Zone. If your domain isn’t using our hosting nameservers, you will need to add a DNS record for this new subdomain. You can manage website files for this subdomain via the folder nominated in step 6.
